Apple Insider has posted a rather frightening article about the future of Final Cut. Basically about its future for the mainstream user and not the professional post-crowd.

In short, Apple is selling more units of Final Cut Express than Final Cut Studio. This would put Apple’s focus on the software squarely in the camp of the iMovie/prosumer purchaser. However, the article goes on to state that Apple is looking to hire programmers in its Pro Apps division. This could mean that a major overhaul of the software is on the way. Translation? Perhaps a 64 bit version of Studio with a price tag to match. One would hope that Motion gets a major overhaul as well – something to challenge Adobe After Effects. I rarely use Soundtrack (basically just the Noise Print function), so I can’t speak to that software at all. In terms of Compressor? I love it, sans this obnoxious green line I get on occasional renders. Please email me if you know what that is all about.

I have to come to grips with the fact that I am running an amazing piece of software that cost me less than 1000 bucks. It couldn’t last forever.

I know I haven’t summarized this well. You can find the entire article here – AppleInsider .
