My Favorite 5D Commercial – PUMA

This is hands down my favorite commercial shot on a 5D (yes, other than yours Denver). Single shot, killer music, Wes Anderson inspired bliss.

No reason for the post. I’m just sayin’….

The Rebel T2i is officially here.

Rebel T2i/550D

A few hours ago, I stopped in at Pictureline in Salt Lake City and asked about the launch date of the Rebel T2i. Seems the 24th was correct. They are expecting to have at least 100 in stock. Here is their website – Pictureline .

Also, BH Photo is showing the kit (body with EF-S/18-55 IS) in stock right now. Here’s the link – BHPhoto .

I’m guessing by the large quantity available at Pictureline that Canon expects great things from this launch. If it delivers on the video, it’s a sure thing.

Amazing Time Lapse and Tutorial – with a Nikon

So I imagine the time lapse photography is going to pop up occasionally on this site. It seems to be the new “in” thing to do with an intervalometer and your DSLR. Most of the time, they really aren’t that interesting. Clouds moving by, lights going on and off. Ho Hum.

Canon EOS/Final Cut Plugin – Official Document

Canon USA has released an official announcement concerning the EOS Movie Plugin-E1, a native Final Cut plugin that allows Canon users to log and transcode video files from EOS DSLR’s into a usable Final Cut codec (specifically Prores codecs).
Highlights include the following:

  • 3x faster transcoding than Compressor
  • Disk Image creation to free up your CF cards
  • Time Code added to each clip

An obvious omission is functionality for the T1i and no mention at all of the T2i. They have stated that T1i functionality will be included at a later date. I imagine this has something to do with the CF card readability versus the SD cards. I’m guessing that this document was also drafted pre-T2i announcement, thus the omission. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

The document mentions a release date of early March.

Here’s the link to the official document.

Free “Film Burns” exclusively here!

Some of you have seen the so called “film burn” (or sometimes called film flash) on different creative pieces. The look typically comes from the misfeed of film through the camera gate behind the lens of a film camera, creating a beautiful but unintended look of red and yellowish hues on print. Because of it’s associated look with film it has become a desired stylized look in video. You can pay a lot of ca$h for this look in the form of a plugin or as stock footage. Here you get it today for free!!! Read on.

Affordable Follow Focus Option

Cinevate Focus Lever

I have to be honest. The idea of paying $500+ for a quality follow focus, when your camera costs less than $2000seems like a largely “extra” expense. Same with paying for a Matte Box just to make your camera look “more professional.” Anyone who has worked on a film crew knows that things behind the scenes don’t always look nice. Gaffers tape holds things together, cheap wood wedges level dolly rails, etc. Ultimately, what matters most is what you get out of the camera.

Canon’s New Prosumer Video Camera is?

Canon A1 Replacement?

DVInfo.net has just posted a rather lengthy article on the new XH-A1 replacement coming some time this year. A solid state version of the XH series, with a recording format of 50Mbps MPEG-2 Full HD video. Also a 4:2:2 color space and dual card slots which will most likely take the SD card format. Sounds exciting eh? Here’s the kicker. 1/3 inch CCD chips!!! Wait…Did I hear that correctly? 1/3 inch sensors?
